Just a short ride from Burlington, nestled in the western slopes of the Green Mountains, Richmond, VT has the perfect, small-town atmosphere that people expect to find in our beautiful New England state. Richmond has a bustling main street, beautiful views, its own ski area, and is still just a few minutes from the Interstate, making it convenient to so much.
While the Village remains small – the population hovers around 4,000 – the bustling main street and downtown area has so much to offer! Here, I’ve highlighted some excellent businesses that can be found in this little town.
Sonoma Station
A personal favorite of mine! Really fresh, local ingredients and a cozy atmosphere are what this restaurant is all about. It is owned and operated by native Vermonter and chef, Monica Lamay. The menu is based on seasonal Vermont farm ingredients and inspired by French and Californian cuisine! sonomastation.com
Toscano
Family owned and operated, this “Mediterranean inspired” bistro serves up local ingredients and fine wines. It is located in the heart of Richmond Village and is a great place for a delicious meal! You will likely run in to someone you know (like me!) while sitting in the cozy dining room in winter, or on the outdoor patio in the warmer months. toscanocafe.com
Parkside Kitchen
The newest addition to downtown Richmond is brought to you by the owners and chefs of The Kitchen Table Bistro, a foodie-lover’s staple in Richmond for many years now. Located right next to the Volunteers Green public park, this new restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and serves creative dishes in a casual Vermont style. Sit down and stay for your meal or pick up to take along with you. parksidekitchenvt.com
Richmond Food Shelf and Thrift Store
A wonderful store that serves the community! The Richmond Thrift Store sells gently used, beautiful clothing at very low prices. All profits from the sales benefit the Richmond Food Shelf which provides food to families in need! It is a great place to pick up something new-to-you, while knowing that your purchase helps local members of the community. richmondfoodshelfvt.org
Richmond Victorian Inn
This inn is not only a lovingly maintained Victorian home for overnight lodging, but the innkeepers also include a trained chef who prepares delicious breakfasts for their guests! The Richmond Victorian Inn is a friendly, welcoming place to stay in or even for hosting small meetings, conferences, or weddings! They also serve a British-style afternoon tea on most Sundays throughout the year. richmondvictorianinn.com
Cochran’s Ski Area
Richmond is home to the country’s first non-profit ski area! Started by the famous local, Olympic-winning Cochran Family in 1961, the area’s non-profit status was established in 1998 so that “No child will be denied the opportunity to ski or ride.” Cochran’s Ski Area is a family-friendly mountain, full of children and adults learning to ski and ride. Enjoy the small town feel, as well as weekly “Lollipop Races,” and after-school programs. You don’t have to leave Richmond to enjoy the mountains! cochranskiarea.com
Richmond Farmer’s Market
Vermonters are lucky to have many towns that host weekly markets throughout the summer months, and Richmond does not disappoint! Held every Friday from May to October this weekly event draws a crowd. There is plenty to do – buy local produce, meats, and cheeses from local farmers, listen to live music, explore the various activities for children, and say hello to your neighbors! richmondfarmersmarketvt.org
Richmond is also home to many thriving, independent, professional businesses large and small. Green Sea Systems, Harrington’s of VT, NOFA Vermont, and the Rainforest Alliance are all headquartered in town, adding to the diverse and thriving business and nonprofit scene!
